You will be prompted to pick a plane. I tried creating a separate gable roof and attaching it to the main roof but no luck. So my main gable roof has two gable roofs which technically intersect in with a shed in the middle in the second floor. Pick the plane that will show the gable end of the project.

Solution you can create a gambrel roof using either the roof by extrusion tool or the roof by mass tool. You cannot join a roof to more than one top face of another roof. You want to create a gambrel roof. For the example where the roof has been shape edited the shape editing tools will display in the contextual tab of the ribbon. To create the roof usingroof by extrusion on the design bar click the basics tab. This is a general procedure for joining roofs.

Open the file in revit. The wall must be attached to the target roof and the target roof must be a footprint roof.
