Metal siding does not have insulating properties. A newer option we like from ecofoil is their double bubble wrap roll insulation for metal buildings. Metal siding and insulation do not go hand in hand and you do have a choice on the matter. This would require using two or two and a half strips between each stud.

You can install fiberglass insulation against the metal roof and prevent moisture problems if you cover it with a vapor barrier. Rolled fiberglass insulation generally comes in rolls of 15 inches up to a maximum of 24 inches wide. Many homeowners don t find out just how poor an insulator metal siding can be until after it s installed as well at which time it s difficult to remedy the situation. Taping the insulation together to achieve the on center coverage isn t best option either.

A second option for insulating a wall with no sheathing is to use spray foam. Some homeowners choose to use unfaced fiberglass insulation batts. Spray foam especially closed cell spray foam will cling tenaciously to siding gluing everything together. Each layer is composed of polyethylene bubbles that function as an additional thermal barrier that helps stop condensation.

Make a better choice for your home. Polyurethane foam has the added benefit of sealing air leaks but you shouldn t consider installing it directly against the back of the siding.
